We removed the wooden knobs and I measured where the original holes were, then marked the new spot on the other bi-fold panel. Except I marked the center where the two doors met instead of the side where the hinge is! So once Mike drilled the holes for the new hardware - we realized that the holes were in the wrong spot. And the knobs didn't have enough leverage to open the doors! Whoops!
So I measured and marked another spot for a third set of holes in the doors and Mike drilled them again. Luckily it wasn't a lot of extra work to patch two extra holes since we already had to pull the wood filler out anyways. Once the patch dried, we sanded it down and painted everything back to white. The posts on the the back of the new knobs were too long for the doors (the doors would not fold all the way), so Mike trimmed them down.
The knobs were a birthday present, chosen by my mother. I've been saving these since the spring. Not only are the colors beautiful, but the patterns and shapes inside the knobs match and coordinate beautifully with the patterns in the glass on the doors. It's like they were made for each other.
