Growing, Growing

I continue to be amazed by how things grow. It happens so gradually that you don’t notice it day to day until suddenly something is HUGE and it takes you by surprise. For example, our knockout rose bush. When we first planted it, was so tiny. Even at the beginning of this summer, it was only knee high. Now it’s as tall as our 6 foot fence (and will be getting a very aggressive pruning).

In the spring I shared the story of our quince, what started as a tiny twig in the grass is now a real shrub.  And in the picture below it’s next to our crepe myrtle, so small you can't even see it. And the crepe myrtle almost died when the deck was built and is now almost taller than the deck.

I was really starting to feel like the thujas along our fence would never grow. Then I recently noticed that they are almost all taller than the fence now and they are all much wider than they used to be. Progress! Before I know it the chain link and less-than-beautiful views will disappear into a wall of green.

I can’t forget the other trees either. The redbud was barely a few feet high, and now it’s huge and gorgeous with a fantastic shape. .

  1. It is amazing, isn't it? The redbud looks great, as do your peonies.
