Living Room Molding: Part 2

(Continued from Part 1) Once we had the new nail gun - a real nail gun that does actual nails - in our possession, installing the molding was fairly simple. Time consuming, but simple. To make sure we placed everything correctly we actually hung all the pieces up with blue painter's tape first, and then secured the molding in place with a combination of liquid nails and the nail gun. I also nailed a tall piece of trim under the stairs to complete the "triangle" and finish that wall off in the corner between the paint and paper. Once the molding was up I inset the nails and filled the holes with wood filler, then I caulked all the edges to fill in any gaps and make the edges feel finished. Once the wood filler dried, I sanded it and touched up the paint with a small brush. Done!

We're really pleased with the results (even if the wallpaper isn't totally Mike's cup of tea). The molding helps contain the paper and allows me to bring in a bright bold pattern without completely overwhelming the room. Plus I think the additional architectural detail helps to bring out and accentuate all of the other molding in the room - the tall base moldings, the intricate crown molding, the wide door frames. And it turns the wallpaper into a giant piece of framed art for a fraction of the price.

  1. It's hard to tell how that looks in the room! Can we see more photos?

  2. I will share more - I promise - but right now our living room is a box-filled disaster. We still haven't unpacked much because we have nowhere to put it yet!
