The Office: A Plan

So Mike cleared out the office.   Let this be a warning to others - don't let your "storage rooms" get out of control.  You'll regret it immensely when it's time to clean up... it took forever.

Now that it's empty, here's the plan for this room (not necessarily in order):
  1. Add a ceiling fan (use existing hole but add a proper fan box, rewire the boxes and the switch)
  2. Add multiple wall outlets (a shared office space needs lots of outlets! This room has exclusive circuits running to it from back in June)
  3. Patch the cracks in the plaster and holes from electrical work
  4. Remove original window treatments and hardware, patch holes (the granny curtains and ancient ripped roller shades)
  5. Install new window treatments - blinds
  6. Paint the walls and ceiling
  7. Remove the pink carpet and carpet pad
  8. Install quarter-round shoe molding around the entire room, paint trim
  9. Set up our furniture and get organized - there are lots of boxes to unpack!

The last part, #9, is going to be a big project after the renovation work is done.  I'm desperate for a well-organized, well-designed, functional and decorated office/studio space.  Once the furniture is in we'll need to put up shelving, buy a bookcase from Ikea, and make a lot of organizational decisions to make this shared space work for a variety of needs.  In my corner I need a home office for my freelance design work and then a creative studio space for my wide variety of interest.  And in Mike's corner he needs space for a home office and a place for his music stuff. Then there's the fun decorating stuff too - a creative space must have personality so decorating is a priority in here.  Then there's all that detail work to do in here later too - the crown molding, a radiator cover, etc.
