Attic Flooring: Building a Base
Once the insulation was replaced and the electrical wires were tacked down, it was time to build the base that would go below the floorboards to leave space for the electrical wires. The 1 inch furring strips run directly over the joists, with gaps where the wires are. You can see the difference in the bottom left corner of the photo above.
Since the pieces were so thin, Mike was able to cut them directly in the attic with a reciprocating saw. And he nailed them down easily with our handy high powered cordless nail gun. This phase of the project was only time consuming because there was so much ground to cover - there are a lot of joists and wires in our attic!
