Front Yard CPR

The winter was exceptionally hard this year, significantly more snow and ice than normal.  We had two casualties in the front yard landscaping - a crushed holly bush and a dying thuja.  The holly is still hanging in there (though a big unsightly) and can hopefully be resuscitated.  The thuja however was brown and 100% dead, so we dug it up and replaced it.  We planted a different species of thuja, a dwarf bush that will only get about 3-4' tall.  It's probably a better fit for this space anyways.

(This picture was taken in the fall when we added adding new landscaping)

Here in the pictures you can see the astilbe we dug up, broke apart and replanted in smaller sections (one row behind the shrubs, in between as filler).  It survived the winter just fine and is already coming up!
