Kitchen Set Stove Burners

For the kitchen set, I wanted to create stove burners that were separate/removable from the counter to make the space more flexible, especially since ⅓ of the counter was now taken up by the sink. I figured Oliver could use the oven knobs to “turn on” both the oven and the stove.

Originally I was going to use wooden circles and paint them, but everything I saw at the craft store was too big. Then one morning while recycling an empty coffee can it hit me - the coffee can lid! We had an ample supply, they were the perfect size for the toy pots and pans, they were already black, and they were free. Plus the ridge detailing on the lid made them really easy to paint.

I looked up kitchen stickers online to get an idea of how to paint the design, then I got to work. I used a silver sharpie marker to do the silver on the outer rim, inner rings and fake supports. I did two coats on the outside rim and inner ring, but only one coat on the fake supports to make them look more receded.

I just painted the orange burner rings freehand. I kept the rings under control by marking where the rings would go with dots on the fake support lines. It took 3 coats to get the orange as bright as I wanted it. A paint marker would have worked well for this part like the silver marker, but I wanted to use what I had on hand.

When everything was dry, I sprayed them outside with two coats of clear spray paint sealant. This will help prevent the paint from scratching off the surface during playtime.

I’m really happy with how these came out! They are the perfect size for the toy pots and pans, are easily moved around without scratching the tiles, and easily replaceable since I don't see us giving up our morning coffee habit anytime soon.
